About “The Immigrant”

Muhammad Fahad Rafique – you can call me “Fahad”, and I am an immigrant, or in this case “The Immigrant”.

Bling, riches, living in a mansion with elevators in the house, maids and caregivers around, a central kitchen with 5 cooks, drivers, 10 cars in the garage – That wasn’t me, but I did have a front row seat to all of this bling while growing up. I am an expatriate, an immigrant and a citizen now.

Born and brought up in U.A.E., I did have modest beginnings. My parents were expatriates and so was I. My daughter was born in Abu Dhabi too, the 2nd Generation of our family tree. Still, nothing. I was an expatriate and couldn’t call U.A.E. my permanent home.

Well, we decided that if nothing is permanent, then why not just move on. Immigration was a choice and we took it. A choice to uproot our footing, create a new home, build a new life, career change, change our aspirations and take a parallel path to move forward. The dome that you live in, the dome that protects you, is just a bubble. You need to burst your bubble to see that parallel path and then decide if you wish to take it.

I took that parallel path and moved to Canada with my family. We moved to Canada. A country that calls you its own without you having spent your life here just because you fit in, and we did fit in well. We all were a great fit in the Canadian economy back in 2016 because we came from different educational and professional backgrounds. The life here was different, it’s challenging but its your own.

Being an Immigrant is not a problem, a burden or an issue. It is a privilege and it befalls people who aspire for it. This blog brings you my experiences as an Immigrant from when it all began and how it is moving forward. It has been more than seven years now since I became an Immigrant – proud to say that we are now citizens of this beautiful country. I don’t have any regrets and I would love to share my experiences with those of you who are thinking of becoming one of the many Immigrants that have built this country and are still building it.

Another twist – I just moved back to U.A.E. as an expat but as a Canadian citizen. Many many reasons behind it – mainly for my family and my parents. Keep on reading – You might be amazed at what life beholds you as an immigrant, as a citizen and as a Canadian expat!

I am an Immigrant, I am a Canadian, I am an Expat and this is my life!
