Super visa in Canada doesn’t mean that you just found Superman’s twin brother or sister residing in Canada. Although Superman’s pod did land in Metropolis, U.S.A. Super visa is essentially a super-powered temporary resident visa. Super visa in Canada was first introduced in 2011. The super visa was introduced to accommodate parents and grandparents of Permanent Residents and Canadian Citizens to visit Canada for an extended period of time. Extended here meaning up to 2 years without having to worry about going through immigration and back again.
Super visa does have that cape to keep parents and grandparents around for a longer time. Essentially giving the children and grandchildren an extended happy time with them. I did take a break from the blog here for some time as my parents arrived in Canada for a happy and long awaited re-union. Giving us the opportunity to serve them as they served us when we were little.
Visit visa and Super visa are two completely different products under Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) program. Visitor visas are issued to anyone applying to come to Canada for a short period of time considering they are eligible. You can visit the country for up to a maximum stay of 6 months prior to having to leave the country or applying for an extension after paying a fee. It’s a way to show people the beauty of Canada and its people.
When it comes to Super visa, this Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) is only for parents and grandparents. Eligible parents or grandparents can visit family in Canada for up to two years without having to renew their status in the country. Super Visa is valid for a maximum of 10 years upon eligibility and clearance by the Case Processing Officer.
The other main reason between both the visas are the specific requirements that need to be fulfilled. Read through below.
Super visa application has certain criterions. These criterions have to be met in order to be eligible for Super Visa in Canada. Not all the people applying for the Super Visa might be eligible, therefore read through here carefully:
You can apply for the Super Visa on your own accord as it is a very simple and straight forward process. Or you can consequently have a Registered Canadian Immigration Consultant (RCIC) apply on your behalf.
The most important requirement to consider before applying for Super Visa is the financial stability of the Child or Grand Child to sponsor. Required documents are as follows:
A Low Income Cut-Off (LICO) issued by the Government of Canada. This ensures that the sponsoring child or grandchild has enough funds to support his parents or grandparents. You can view the LICO for the year using the link or below for your reference from January 1 to December 31, 2022:
Coming to Canada is an experience on its own. The choice – Canada that you made before landing in Canada might also include your parents and grandparents. Every individual who wishes to bring their parents and support them have to ensure that they are stable financially. When I arrived here, I missed my parents. Being together for so many years and then having to fly 15 hours to see them is difficult.
Therefore I ensured that I was financially stable to support them and sponsor them in Canada. The first year was riddled with job changes and instability so wasn’t able to achieve the LICO. Next year we strived, build and invested in businesses and ensured a stable income flow to ensure LICO was achieved thereon forward.
Finally I was able to submit the Super Visa application for my parents and they were issued one in 2018. It was an experience overall going through the process. You can view the guidelines in detail here for your reference if you wish to apply yourself.
Wishing you the best of luck in applying for the Super Visa and seeing your parents and grandparents in Canada. A dream in a dream on the Road to Canada.
